Garron and Abby Combs

So I know it’s been forever since I have updated the blog. I apologize. It’s been so crazy here with the move and traveling and then the holidays… I just don’t know where to start. So Ill start at the beginning….

We moved to Eagle Mountain, Utah on October 29th, 2008. As posted earlier, Garron got a new job that is based out of Orem, Utah, requiring us to move. We are so excited to start this new chapter in our lives and more exciting is that we can do it together. Oh the joys of marriage! Garron’s Company was so great to let Garron fly out of Vegas for about 2 months while we worked out the financial side of moving. After everything was settled and the truck was loaded, we were on our way to Utah.

The Move

We originally were going to borrow my dad, grandpa, mom and Garron’s parents, to help us move. My mom’s good friend, Anne, has a trailer that she let us borrow and my dad has a trailer from work. We had most everything arranged to use the two trucks and two trailers. Well when it finally came down to it, we decided to rent a truck (Penske) because of the weather and space concerns as well.

Tuesday morning we went down to pick up the truck and Garron made a joke to the salesman to let us rent a 22’ for the same price as the 12’ we ordered. Well I thought the guy would just laugh in our face and say “Heck No, You crazy?” But instead, the gentleman said, “I don’t have any 22’s but I do have a 26’ I could give you for the same price.” Holy cow we were so excited. So we took the offer. We felt so lucky and blessed that we didn’t have to worry about space. We just had to worry about filling it up with gas!

So Garron, my dad, my grandpa, and Garron’s dad all helped us load up the truck. Tuesday night we slept at Garron’s parents for our last night in Vegas, as our whole life was in the truck. Wednesday morning, after some hassle, Garron headed off in the truck around 8:00 am. I was planning on leaving around 9 or 9:30 and then, because I could go faster then the truck, I would either beat or meet Garron at the house about the same time.

Well I still had to do some final touches with the move and I was sure taking my time! I had to run the Post Office and forward our mail. In the mean time, Garron’s dad was so kind to load the little things we forgot from the house, into my car. By the time I got back to the house, everything was ready and I was on my way around 10 am.

On the way up to Utah, I stopped in St. George to have lunch with my sister Kallie. Well she wanted to eat at El Pollo Loco, which I LOVE, but it does take some time. We had a great time but I didn’t end up on the road till about 1pm. So then it was another 4 hour drive to our new home.

Meanwhile, Garron was inching closer and closer to our house and getting more and more mad that I wasn’t close. He ended up getting to the house around 4 and I got there around 5pm. I came with pizza as to offset everyone’s anger towards me. We had a huge group to help us, my mom, my sister and her boyfriend, my two brothers, Garron’s speaker Art and his two boys and then I came to see everything all loaded and boxes ready for me to unload.

Thank you everyone who helped us in the huge process. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Tomorrow is my last day at work!!! I really can’t believe it is already here!! A couple of weeks ago, my work hired a replacement for me to train. They wanted to hurry and get someone so that I could train them and have them ready to go by the time I left. Well, they found someone faster then they though so she started about three weeks ago. Her name is Christina and she is doing great. I really cant wait to be out of here. For any of you who know me I HATE my job and these last few weeks have been so hard. Everyone here knows Im leaving so they dont really want to give me things to do, but they dont want me to get paid to just sit here (even though thats what Ive done for the past 9 months!!!). So its been rough and lets just say if I never have to set foot in this place ever again, I will live to be a happy women!!!!

Anyway, I have put off everything I need to do knowing that what I needed to do wouldnt take too long. Such as, cleaning out my folder on my work computer, cleaning out my desk and taking my stuff home. I probably have put it off because I know I have a ton of junk I need to take home and then it will be on my counter at home instead of on my desk at work. Either way it will get done.

Packing at home has gone pretty good. I have realized that I dont want to have my house be totally in boxes while Garron is away too. It already feels empty when he is gone and then with packing its pretty much a ghost town in there! Plus, Im pretty much OCD when it comes to organizing so I want to unpack everything from its place, set it out and organize it, then pack it in a box. Am I the only one who does that? I sure hope not! I plan to spend Friday night and all day Saturday actually putting things into boxes.

My parents have been so great through this whole move. They are always telling us how excited they are to have us there. I really cant wait to be there and get to know my family again. I feel like I have been away from home for FOREVER! They also have been so great to jump up and help us. They are planning on driving two trucks and two trailers down to pack up and drive them back, with all of our stuff. It really means a lot to me that they have offered so much in our behalf. THANKS FAM!

Garrons family has been great too. They have all expressed in some form how much they will miss us. I have grown to love each family member individually and I am sad at the thought of leaving them. Im sad that we will miss the daily interaction with them. Also, the little things that are big things like Trissa and her running her cross-country meets, the first time Joseph will say certain words, birthdays and chruch meetings. All are just little and yet over time they are the things that have brought our family close. I will never forget this year that I have spent in Las Vegas. We will probably end up back here but for now we know Heavenly Father wants us in Utah.

We feel so blessed to be able to make this move happen. We thank all of those who have helped us in any way, big or small. We love you!

We will try and get our internet up so that I can come back to the blogging world and post new pictures of our house.

Well for those of you who read our blog, you know that we are moving to Utah. I have been a little slack with posting details so I applogize. Here is an update.

We have been struggling with our Property Managers with getting out of our lease. I know that by leaving the premises before April 2009 we are in breach of our contract but they are being a little ridiculous. Once we mentioned the word “move” they started sending us emails and letters telling us that we WILL NOT get our deposit back (which I already knew), and we have to pay some additional fees. We have to pay to get the carpets cleaned which they told us would be about 100-200 dollars and also a “Releasing Fee” of $450!! I was so mad. I just thought that they were trying to get all the money they could from us before we left. Also, if we left the property and stopped paying rent, then they can hurt our credit for the what we didnt pay on our remaining lease. I was so frustrated and worried as to what to do.

I posted about us looking for renters a while ago at the slim chance we would have someone interested. Well, a long time friend of Garrons, Sara Young, contacted us and wanted to see the house. Both her and her hubby, Ryan, loved the house the minute they saw it. We were excited that we didnt have to worry about our credit and that we would have someone to take over or sign a new lease on our property.

After long talks with Garron and Jared, our brother-in-law who is an attorney, we contacted the property management with the Youngs name and number. The Property Managment company had the Young family fill out an application and they GOT APPROVED!

We also are getting our “Good Faith Deposit” back, thanks to Garron putting up a fight!

So we are moving to Utah in about 2 weeks. Its crazy to think that I wont be driving the streets of Las Vegas anymore. To think that we are leaving sun for snow and Nevada for Utah is very bittersweet. I think I will always love Vegas, for many reasons, but for the fact that Garron and I started our family here. We had our first home together in this area and experiences so many “Firsts” here. I love Utah and they are so many good things about this move, however, there are many sad things about leaving Las Vegas.

Here are some photos of our new home in Eagle Mountain, Utah. For all you family and friends, we will be having a house warming party in the upcoming weeks.

The view from the front. It looks small but wait till you get inside!

This is our Family Room, complete with hardwood floors and a fireplace! It huge too!

My BEAUTIFUL Kitchen! It is absolutely my favorite. (the fridge will be there when we get there). Also, the hardwood floors continue through the main floor.

This is a hallway that leads to the laundry room. The stairs lead to the basement. In the hall is this build in cabinet that has two computer stations with drawers. Great for when our kids start doing homework!

Last but not least…

The Laundy Room. The room is HUGE!! It will be really nice to have somewhere to keep all of our laundry soap and accesories.

Well thats the house. We are both really excited and cant wait to get all moved in and settled into our new home. I will post pictures once we move with the rooms and bathrooms and such. Enjoy for now!

August 15-17th

So this weekend has been a very busy one. Garron is starting his new job on Monday (8/18th) and so we needed to get him to Salt Lake (Highland) this weekend. So, Garron and I left Friday after work to Utah. He ended up getting in around 12:30 AM. It was a long drive!! Then Saturday morning we were up at 8am to go look at a house. The first house we looked at was in SunCrest. It is on the mountain that separates Alpine from Draper (that is my understanding). It was a 3-bedroom townhouse and after looking at it we both had mixed feelings. We headed back to my parents for a bridal shower that my mom was throwing for her friends daughter that happens to be one of my friends as well; Callie Crosby. We had a BLAST at the shower and after everyone left, Garron, my mom and me went to go look at some more homes. We stopped for lunch and headed out to Eagle Mountain. For anyone that hasn’t been out there… GO. It is beautiful. We looked at a 3 bedroom 2 bath home that was BEAUTIFUL. I feel in love with it the moment I walked into it. It is right on the Ranches Golf Course (my dad and grandpa love that) and it is about 15mins west of Lehi. After this home we went to Saratoga Springs (which is also beautiful) to look at a town home. The town home had 3 bedrooms and a community clubhouse with a pool. It was really beautiful but compared to the house it doesn’t come close. I love that the house feels more like a home and it really felt like that is where we will start our family. Once we move I will be sure and post pictures of the new house.

After we looked at the homes, we went back to my parents and got all packed up. Kallie and Shelby had already left, the Grandma and Mom, and then I left about an hour later. Kallie and Shelby stopped for food so then Grandma and Mom were in the lead. We were all heading for St. George to move Kallie down there for her 2nd year of college (1st at Dixie). Once we got to St. George we had dinner then headed over to Kallie’s to unload the cars. That went by really fast, thanks to some boys that helped sped things up. After that we went to the hotel and went to bed.

The next morning (Sunday) we woke up, had breakfast and headed to the store. We had such a fun time getting all of her groceries and everything she needed for her little home. We had lunch after and then Kallie and I headed to the Apartment to unload and to decorate. We really had so much fun doing all of this together. It made me thankful for the times when I had to share a home with 6 other girls that were CRAZY (don’t ask). Those times prepared me for my husband… haha. Her room is SO cute and she did such a great job this summer saving for her new experience in college.

Good luck Kallie. You are in our prayers and we are so proud of you!!!! Love you!

August 12th

Today is the day that Garron got the call from the company he interviews with last weekend. Dahl (the boss) called Garron to inform him that he really like him and that…

So, its looks like we are moving. This has all happen so fast, and although I have been praying about it, I still haven’t received my answer that this is what we are supposed to be doing. Garron, being the priesthood holder in our home, knows that this is where we are supposed to be headed. And so, I learn to follow his guidance and the priesthood that he has been given.

I really feel so blessed to have such a hard working husband. It seems that he never gives up or stops trying to improve our family life. He is always thinking about what is best for our family. I knew that was one of the big reasons that I married him and I truly feel blessed that he chose to be sealed to ME! I know that our family will always be taken care of. Also, I am so grateful that he honors his priesthood. He really does lead our family and I am learning to let him do that. I love him so much and love that I will never go without him.

So if anyone knows of someone that is looking to rent a 3 bedroom 2.5 bath wonderful home, let me know.

August 8-11th

A couple of weeks ago, Tim Hellbusch told Garron that his company is looking to hire sales people in the next short while. Well, for any of you that know Garron, he is the BEST salesman ever. He is such a hard worker and I really think it gives him pride when he does his job well (and he always does). Garron sent off his resume to Tim’s Company and a couple of days later they called wanting to meet with him. They only gave him about 2 days notice and so we were a little stressed as to how to get him to Salt Lake. So, my parents SAVED THE DAY! They let Garron used some of there JetBlue flights to get up to Salt Lake. He left Friday afternoon and was picked up in Salt Lake that night by my sisters. The next day he went to an interview, however he didn’t like it much. Sunday was church and a nice relaxing day for the family (minus me). Then Monday was the BIG day. He had his interview at 3:00pm with Dahl and I was so excited and nervous for Garron. I knew he would do great but I wanted to be there to see him off. Oh well, I guess he is a big boy! He called me after his appointment and said that everything went GREAT!!! He sounded just SO happy and SO excited at the possibility of getting this new job. I will let you know if he got the job soon!!!

Even though he is mostly goofy like this, he can actually be such a hard worker and great business man.

I love him!!
